About the Book
Millionaire (我的志願) is a bilingual Chinese-English illustrated book and audio performance about period poverty in Taiwan. Through the diary of 12-year-old Paine Lee, readers and listeners can peek into the harsh reality of those suffering in period poverty, become aware of the issue, and eventually be motivated to be part of the solution.
According to the Taiwanese NPO With Red ( 小 紅 帽 ), “Period poverty” refers to the phenomenon that people are unable to afford or lack access to sufficient and adequate menstrual products due to financial limitations. This can create negative physical and psychological issues such as genital infection, pelvic inflammation, infertility, cervical cancer, severe depression, and anxiety.
