Virtual Collaborative Program for Emerging
Artists

VICE is a virtual residency elevating emerging artists through a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting

About the Program

The Virtual Collaborative Program for Emerging Artists (VICE) is Exit 11’s cross-border, cross-disciplinary residency program for emerging artists. Open to writers, directors, actors, dancers, poets, filmmakers, performer-activists, and everyone in between and beyond, VICE is part of our mission to elevate diverse voices and emerging artists through collaborative, interdisciplinary art. VICE groups artists from around the world in a virtual collaboration to create a new piece of work, fostering intercultural dialogue and artistic development. The theme for 2022’s three-month virtual residency is Peripheries.

VICE’s first in-person exhibition, Peripheries, is currently touring.

VICE ’22 Theme: Peripheries

For the 2022 program, nine artists were selected to participate in a series of initial workshops aimed at introducing them to new methodologies and ideas across disciplines. After the initial workshops, the artists will develop their projects collaboratively in teams of their own choosing. Throughout the process, Exit 11 hosted regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and additional skills workshops – based on the projects in development – with the team and external teachers. The program culminated in an exhibition showcasing their completed work.

VICE ’21

The 2021 pilot program was run in partnership with Postscript Magazine and included sound walks, poetry, virtual reality, photography, and more. The VICE 2021 Cohort was made of six artists completing three projects: Fatima Al Romaithi and Lillian Snortland, Dominika Jezewska and Israa Al Balushi, and Ahmed Ashour and Carlos Paez.
